A dedicated and vibrant community

Doctoral studies are a significant commitment to your professional future, and we are here to help you with every step.

During your time as a PGR student at Essex, you will benefit from working and networking with your supervisor(s) and from engaging with the broader research community within your academic department/school.

We are here to support all students as they navigate their studies and research, working with all academic departments and schools to support academic progression, continuation, and award for the whole PGR community. We provide expert advice and guidance to students and their supervisors , and academic departments, on the implementation and operation of PGR-related regulations, policies and processes, including progress assessment and monitoring, examination and viva.

By carrying out your doctoral research with us, you will have access to support for UKRI-funded Doctoral Training Partnerships, and postgraduate research student skills development – specifically via the University’s research training scheme, Proficio.
