About us

A University with Bold Ambitions

You're joining a vibrant community of over 1,200 postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers.

As a postgraduate research (PGR) student at Essex, you'll benefit from working closely with your supervisor(s) and engaging with the wider research community within your academic department or school. You'll also become part of the wider PGR network through the Essex Doctoral and Postdoctoral College (EDPC).

The Essex Doctoral and Postdoctoral College is led by the Dean of Postgraduate Research Education (PGRE), who reports to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) and works closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, and our Executive Deans. Each Faculty has a dedicated Faculty Dean of Postgraduate Studies, who supports the Dean of PGRE and their Executive Deans in fostering a vibrant and supportive postgraduate community.

To ensure a joined-up, University-wide approach, the EDPC operates through a Steering Group and an Operational Group, providing effective and consistent leadership for postgraduate and postdoctoral activity.
