Contacting your Student Advisor

All undergraduate and taught postgraduate students are allocated a Student Advisor. Your Student Advisor will be a member of staff from your department. If you are a postgraduate research student your research supervisor will take on this role.

Finding out who your Student Advisor is

You can find the name of your Student Advisor by logging in to your My Essex student portal. Click on the ‘Education’ tab at the top and your Student Advisor will be listed under the ‘Courses’ section. Alternatively, you can ask the professional services staff within your department.

Meeting your Student Advisor

You will first have the opportunity to meet your Student Advisor during the first few weeks of term. Your Student Advisor or department will let you know when this will take place. Your Student Advisor may offer you the opportunity to meet at other times during the year and you are encouraged to meet regularly.

Your Student Advisor can advise and support you across a wide range of issues and is not someone you should only see when you have a problem. You can contact your Student Advisor at any time in the academic year to arrange a meeting if there is something you would like to discuss.

Contacting your Student Advisor

You can contact your Student Advisor by email or visit in person during his/her academic support hours.

If your Student Advisor goes on research leave or leaves the University

If your Student Advisor goes on a period of research leave or leaves the University you will be assigned a new Student Advisor. This change will be communicated to you via your department and will also be updated on your My Essex student portal.
